Roast Mortem by Cleo Coyle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Claire Cossi, barista by day, sleuth by night. In the ninth installment of the Coffeehouse Mystery series, Roast Mortem, we find barista Claire Cossi, manager of the popular Village Blend coffee shop in New York City, hot on the trail of a serial arsonist. Ask Claire works to prove the innocence of a dear friend, her investigation leads her right in the middle of family conflict involving the NYFD and her beau NYPD Detective Mike Quinn. In order to get the answer she’s looking for, not only does she have to throw gasoline on a few slow burning fires but she’ll also have her life and possibly her coffee shop blown up in the process.
This was once again a fabulous cozy mystery. It’s a story you want to read with a coffee in your hand and plenty of free hours in the day. While at times I felt the multiple plot lines walked the boundary of far-fetched, the storytelling is so intricately delicate that you are lead from each conclusion to the next while still feeling a sense of surprise during the final discovery. Things are not always as they appear to be.
